Yusuf Residence: A Home with Quiet Confidence
Some homes shout. This one doesn’t need to.
The Yusuf Residence is a two-storey family home designed by our team at Buildink Studio, architects in Raipur. Mr. Yusuf wanted a house that felt calm, looked timeless and still had room for the whole family. This is what we came up with.
From the street, you see soft cream walls, a clean cornice on the tall left block and slim fluted pilasters running down its sides. The windows have warm timber frames and neat borders, and the upper floor opens onto small railed balconies. It has the elegance of a classic house without any of the heaviness.
The entrance matters as much as the house. A low boundary wall carries a bed of marigolds and flowering plants, so the first thing you see is colour. Behind the black slatted gates there’s a covered car porch and a timber front door. The slats keep the house private but still let light and air through, which helps a lot in Raipur’s heat. Wall lights on the gate pillars make the entrance glow at dusk.
Inside, everything is arranged around the living room (13' × 13'). It flows into the dining area, with the staircase right beside it. The kitchen (12' × 10') sits at the back with its own door to the rear. The two bedrooms, 12' × 12' and 12' × 16', stay away from the busy part of the house, and each has a toilet close by.
Upstairs, you get two more bedrooms, a store room, and the best spot in the house: a terrace of about 14' × 13' right above the entrance porch. You step out onto it through a timber door, with a black railing and planters around you. It’s where the family can have evening chai or just watch the street go by.
In the late afternoon the sun turns the cream walls golden and the trees throw shadows across the boundary wall. That’s when the house looks its best.
